Any steel surface must be prepared using a blasting system before being exposed to the elements. This ensures the following:

  • Removal of any contaminants, such as general dirt, grease or rust.
  • Removal of calamine or scale. to avoid this interfering with and obstructing contact between the coating and the steel.
  • Removal of welding seams and sharp edges.

Blasting must also be carried out if the hull of the vessel has been previously painted, damaging contaminants can still be present on these surfaces. In fact, if we detect that the existing paint is not in good condition – due to these factors – we will remove it entirely, just like any other contaminant.
